Be Wary Of Diploma Mills

With the advent of technology, we now experience many conveniences when it comes to our day-to-day tasks. One aspect that has been changed by technology is the way that people are being educated. There are easier and more convenient ways for getting a high school education, at the click of a mouse one can take lessons in different subjects and get credited for the time spent in front of the computer.

We don’t have any excuses anymore because there are accredited online high schools offering distance learning from the comfort of our own homes. One only has to enroll to be able to get the standard high school curriculum. By getting your lessons online and submitting your exams at your own pace, education has never been this easy to obtain.

While this kind of learning is becoming widespread there is much to be wary of. Our exposure to all these convenient ways means many people are looking to make money off of people who search for online schools that promote distance learning or online high schools that offer legitimate high school programs.

This demand for quality education has created another kind of business – a business that offers education at your fingertips and a diploma to signify the end of the program. Unbeknownst to many, these diplomas are illegitimate.

This is what the diploma mills are about. They have invaded the education industry targeting students who are looking for online schools or diplomas. The fees may be anywhere from $350 to $2,000 to cover tuition, testing, transcript and diploma fees. However, this diploma will be worthless when presented to a college or university or if used to gain employment. This is because the institution that granted this diploma is not accredited by the proper organizations.

It is easy to be fooled by these diploma mills as they have developed their websites to look professional and accredited. Someone who has not done their research or read anything about diploma mills can be misled, because sometimes it is hard to tell the difference between them and actual accredited educational institutes.

The main promise of these diploma mills is that the degree can be earned in only a few months. The programs and tests are generally easy because this is not the standard high school curriculum. Anyone who takes this program will find that the subjects taken won’t be credited unlike subjects taken in accredited educational institutes.

Some people might take this route by mistake but there are also some who take this direction on purpose. They would like the easy alternative, but the easy part is only getting the diploma. The hard part awaits them when they use the illegitimate diploma in the future.

For those who are looking for ways to finish high school, they should seriously think of going to either a traditional high school or an accredited online high school. The other alternative would be taking a GED or General Educational Development, but going to a diploma mill should not be in anyone’s plans for a brighter future.
